It is, in one sense, another battle in an ongoing process in which people figure out how to properly monetize social media while balancing users’ needs.īut in another, it is also a lesson in how to run a community or an organization - and that once you have empowered your user or your workers, you have to treat them as such, or face dire consequences. The owners of the site are clashing with the many users and communities that make the site what it is. Reddit, if you didn’t know, is a popular and surprisingly influential social news site with millions of users that people turn to for information, advice, and community. What it more likely suggests, however, is a power struggle between newly empowered employees and a management class scrambling to adopt to a post-COVID world. For others, it’s about entitlement, the trends indicative of a generation who should, instead, be grateful to have a job. Whatever hot new term is being bandied about, it’s clear that something is afoot in the world of work.įor some, it’s a sign of worker empowerment, or even a symbol of late capitalist malaise.
